Ex- Democrat, ex- Al Gore Supporter, ex- Gray Davis supporter, and now Communications Director of the California Republican Party Patrick Dorinson was interviewed by Eric Hogue on 1380 KTKZ this morning.
Dorinson, who became a Republican 3 years ago said he switched because the Democrats had become "ossified elephants", and had not presented any new ideas in years. He saw that the Republican Party through the contract with America advanced new ideas and principles.
The conservative base of the Republican party has been greatly concerned about a shift to the left since Governor Schwarzenegger appointed Susan Kennedy as his Chief of Staff. Now conservatives are waiting to see if this appointment of an recent ex-Democrat represents a further shift to the left.
A caller to the show challenged Mr. Dorinson as to his support of the party's platform. Mr. Dorinson replied that he supported it 100%. He said that he is a paid staff member who's job is to further the party's platform and goals.
Considering the current split in the party and the upheaveal expected at the convention this coming weekend, one could say say the platform is not fully defined. The platform could end up representing a shift to the left since the endorsement of the Governor is expected.
Patrick sounds good, but many are not convinced. Is the Republican party in California going squish?

California Repupublican Party motto,
"Squish is us"
|| Posted by laxpat, February 22, 2006 07:57 AM ||It was an interesting interview. I'm still suspect however, in this Squishy state, we just need to win elections. If he can deliver, then he's doing the job for the Republican party.
|| Posted by , February 22, 2006 10:51 AM ||Ex Gore, Clinton, Davis supporter AND a former DEMO??
Please...get real. This guy is sellout.
Why, did he suddenly FIND HIMSELF and go with being a Repub?? Cause of our views and morals?
Or, cause he jumped to the bandwagon?
IF, he was a staunch anything, he'd kept to his own party, and fought to purge it from the lefty whackjobs that currently infest the Demo's.
Jumping ship to the R side means squat.
Given what I've seen written on Aarons blog site, this guys nothing more than a Politcal hack, RINO, trying to buffalo the voters into believing he's " pure Repub " at heart, and he's PAID to sell the R message.
Crap. All this done by Ahnold to boot.
Since last year, I've said loud and proud: LAME DUCK GOV.
You're now watching a silent civil war within the Repub party in California. How those so called, LEADERS want to proceed, is one thing, but GIVING us this garbage dressed like a Conservative, is crap. You might be making NICE NICE within your " elite " ranks, but you're only pissing us off at the VOTER ranks.
Repubs this year in Cali, are going to take a huge ' bite in their collective Arse ' by this blatant/secretive move to appease the Demo's.
Come election time, we'll see: Either you'll be correct and voters will turn out, or I'll be right, and you'll see voter backlash.
I don't buy this guy nor his answers for anything.
|| Posted by LNaranjoiv, February 22, 2006 02:02 PM ||I guess LNaranjoiv would have told Ronald Reagan stay in the Dem Party too.
Patrick is 'not' a stauch conservative. He is a 'center-right' Republican at best. He took the heat, fielded the calls and answered every one honestly and clearly.
At this point, I don't know how he will do over the long haul - he's in a very, very tough spot. But, what if he is sincere...should we refuse his contribution?
He is 'growing' Republican. He left the Clinton Administration when Bill the platform once he ghot inside of the WHouse. He worked at the ISO during the energy crisis, and expierenced Gray Davis during the state's crisis. He learned that the GOP members were the only problem solvers. He then worked on the recall, and rubbed elbows with GOP members in common battle for the first time - he like what he saw and learned. He decided to vote for Bush, Arnold and for the GOP ballot over the past three years.
He is happy to be welcomed into the "big tent", and ready to roll up his sleeves to get statewide GOP members elected...
....but no...knuckledragging attitudes like LNaranjoiv want to kick him out of the party and refuse his talents/gifts for the cause.
I may be wrong, but I thought you win elections by (1) registering more voters, (2) getting them out to vote on election day, (3) and getting them to support and work to elect Republican candidates and ideals. (75% with me, not against me!)
Maybe I was wrong...maybe we like being the "loser party" in California.
|| Posted by Eric Hogue, February 22, 2006 03:34 PM ||Thank you herr eric, for confirming what I said:
He's a moderate RINO coming into the party.
If he's sincere? And? Your point is?? We thought/believed Ahnold to be sincere, and look what that landed us.
Seems as if this guy was only punching clocks/tickets to advance HIS self serving interests. Imagine that. Small wonder why YOU like him.
I believe in the history of Ronald, he started Demo, but never believed IN that party nor it's way of thinking. Hmmmmmm.......now that's quiet different from someone who started IN the party, embraced the party, and when things didn't go there way, switched in midstream cause the other side was winning??
ISO?? Why, what did he do there? Help the state, or cash in on the royal screwing we got under Davis????
Let's see how your formula works on winning in this state:
A) Register the voters, but who cares HOW we sell them a " package " so long as they're Republican
B) Get them out to vote........even tho what we're attempting to pass on the voters sucks/stinks and is vastly lacking in common sense and/or basic principles, it's all about the PARTY
C) Get them to support GOP Candidates and get them elected!!........just overlook the fact that they sell out the state and the people who VOTED for them, it's all about the GOP.
Well herr eric, you're wrong. Maybe, I'm an idealist at heart, but I kinda would like to believe, the average JOE/JANE isn't as stupid as YOU make people out to be.
You want to register folks?? Have a decent selection for candidate AND give them a REASON to come out and vote.
You want to get them out?? Don't sell them a bill of goods disguised as GOOD LAW when we all know what BAD laws do/are. ( and don't try to infuse us with crap like what was passed during the special election )
You want to GET support FOR GOP candidates, and their causes AND ideas??
Stop sucking up to the other side and CONVINCE " knuckledraggers " like myself and a vast hord of the ' silent listeners/viewers ' you just dismissed as idiots, to VOTE for the GOP.
DON"T think that we HAVE too, just cause YOU say so.
I like being on the winning side....it's just that we have to overcome people who like LOSING and continue to help us LOSE more often with their wishy-washy ways of " better to fly half way to texas then have the fuel to do the whole trip " mentality.
|| Posted by LNaranjoiv, February 22, 2006 04:51 PM ||That would be Leo Williams, as in Mark's brother.
Hogue, you are right on. I personally have a wait and see attitude on this guy. Let's see what he does and if he proves his conversion through his actions.
|| Posted by Aaron Park, February 23, 2006 10:24 AM ||Then answer me this aaron:
Why aren't the Repubs coming up with a REPUBLICAN for this position??
You mean to tell me, NO one in the party qualifies?
NO moderate? No Conservative?? Not even a LIB Repub??
No, they had to get a Rino??
Please......you can sit on your duff and wait and see till the cows come home.
THIS is why the BASE is pissed.......but, that's okay, we'll see come the election time.
You've eaten crow once before, I'm game to prove you wrong a second time too.
|| Posted by LNaranjoiv, February 23, 2006 05:21 PM ||Last time I checked Patrick Dorinson does write legislation, vote on legislation, run for election or fill judicial vacancies...yet people like LNaranjoiv want to ignore his talents, skills and transition to the GOP.
"Dumb as a box of rocks!" He needs to listen to more of Mark, maybe he can buy Mark's CD series..."Hooked on Ignorance"...
|| Posted by Eric Hogue / KTKZ, February 24, 2006 02:17 PM ||last time I checked, herr eric...so did other Straight out of the box Republicans.
They started with this party.....not switched over TOO it.
So...again.....as you've attempted to cover aarons lack of response, with your own juvenile one........the question stands:
Could not that spot have been filled by a REPUBLICAN candidate instead of a Demo-switched-over one???
For even your simple mind...that means, one who hasn't transitioned from DEMO to REPUB.
I DO listen to Mark...often. His show's won an AWARD....has yours????
|| Posted by Lnaranjoiv, February 24, 2006 04:50 PM ||Oooops, my bad.......I've not heard of your show winning anything. Pardon. Perhaps, you should try HARDER.
